Author's Notes:
Cayt: This was a really difficult sequence to get right, but I am very proud of how it came out. Trying to get across that Kira can be scary, showing the different kinds of emotional turmoil the two are dealing with, and trying to get across what Cur has been wrestling with internally while also starting to bring down the Consequences Hammer™ was a difficult balance to strike. There's more to come, of course, but I'm very happy with this setup. Ari and I worked our butts off on it. Incidentally, happy 150th page of this chapter! @_@
Ari: And we begin to really see the full extent of the damage that this system has brought on the children of Treehollow. Tamberlane, like Cur, found herself alone, without a guiding hand of a parent, but unlike Cur, she found a safe place to land in Belfry. How might things have turned out differently if Cur was able to open his heart again? It's so hard to trust again once you've been betrayed. I'm so proud of this sequence and what's coming after it. And yes, happy 150th of this chapter!!!

KIRA: You don't get to do that.

CUR: You don't get to tell me what I can't do!
CUR: I have to leave! I keep hurting
KIRA: What? What're you gonna say, Cur?
KIRA: You gonna say, "Ohh, I'm no good?"
KIRA: "I hurt creatures, ohh, I'm just th' worst, erryone hates me??"
KIRA: Well, that's YOUR FAULT!
KIRA: We told you to stop 'fore it got bad, Cur!

CUR: Oh, don't gimme that!
CUR: When we was goin' back on the cart, you blamed her! Loudly!!
KIRA: Because I was protecting you, stupid! So's they didn't know the truth!

KIRA: The truth that you did it.
KIRA: The truth that you nearly kilt Jonas and Tamberlane by bein' selfish.
KIRA: The truth that you got Jonas's leg chopped off.
CUR: His what...??

CUR: W-wait, they chopped off his leg??
KIRA: Yeah, and now you're talking about leaving, right after you hurt him so bad it can never get fixed!!
CUR: Then I have to go. Before something worse happens!
KIRA: WE CAN'T LEAVE!
KIRA: If we leave, if we're banished, Jonas's gonna be all alone!
CUR: Hold up, who said anything about we?
CUR: It's always been my mistakes! The two of you can have yer cozy life in Treehollow without me around ruining everything!
KIRA: What do you MEAN, ruining everything?! We're FAMILY!
KIRA: You don't just LEAVE family!
CUR: YES! YOU DO!

CUR: It doesn't matter if they gave birth to you! It doesn't matter how good you are!
CUR: It doesn't matter if they feed you or change your stupid nappies because you're their little baby and they'll love you forever.
CUR: One day you're s'posed to grow up and if you don't, they hate you, and when you do, they LEAVE!
CUR: But at least you're a grown-up when they go.
CUR: Our parents decided it wasn't worth waiting for us to grow up.
YOUNG CUR: ...Daddy...?
CUR: They just left.
CUR: You're my friend, Kira, but you'll never be my family.
CUR: Because I HATE my family.

KIRA : La vérité, c'est que c'est toi qui l'as fait.
KIRA : La vérité, c'est que tu as failli tuer Jonas et Tamberlane par égoïsme.
KIRA : La vérité, c'est que tu as fait couper la jambe de Jonas.
CABOT : Sa quoi… ?

CABOT : A-Attends, ils lui ont coupé la jambe ?!
KIRA : Ouais, et maintenant tu parles de partir, juste après l'avoir blessé au point que ça pourra jamais être réparé !!
CABOT : Alors je dois partir. Avant que quelque chose de pire n'arrive !
KIRA : ON NE PEUT PAS PARTIR !
KIRA : Si on part, si on est bannis, Jonas sera tout seul !
CABOT : Attends, qui a parlé de nous ?
CABOT : Ça a toujours été mes erreurs ! Vous deux pouvez vivre votre vie tranquille à Treehollow sans que je sois là à tout gâcher !
KIRA : COMMENT ÇA, tout gâcher ?! On est une FAMILLE !
KIRA : On ne QUITTE pas sa famille comme ça !
CABOT : SI ! ON LE FAIT !

CABOT : Peu importe qu'ils te nourrissent ou te changent tes stupides couches parce que tu es leur petit bébé et ils t'aimeront pour toujours.
CABOT : Un jour, t'es censé grandir, et si tu ne l'fais pas, ils te détestent. Et quand tu tu l'fais, ils PARTENT !
CABOT : Mais au moins, t'es un grand quand ils partent.
CABOT : Nos parents ont décidé que ça ne valait pas la peine d'attendre qu'on grandisse.
JEUNE CABOT : …Papa… ?
CABOT : Ils sont juste partis.
