really starting to like my odds on the abroad is completely fine and the people here are just sore over losing the war so they want to be isolationist as possible theory,

You screwed up, Bel. The correct answer was “I don’t know, but whether or not you are from abroad doesn’t change that you’re my daughter and I love you.” Now if they find out that Tamberlane is, in fact, from Abroad, she’ll always remember Belfry’s initial negative reaction.

Clearly Belfry is taking Abroad much more seriously than at the end of the last chapter. Tess had to point out that if Tam gets sick, they won’t know how to treat her, and Belfry would probably have to take her Abroad to seek treatment there. And if she does that, they can never come home. She does not like this idea any more than Tess does, so she has become just as reluctant to discuss Abroad with Tam.

This is how I act when a child asks me where do babies come from

I hate to burst your bubble, Belfry, but where else would a human come from? That said, Tam was just an infant at the time, so you can’t really hold her birthplace against her.

I really don’t get how Belfry’s sleeves work.
Oh wait, I see it now. They do flap around.

Jeepers Bel. You need to relax a little, you’re going to scare her.

It’s still strange how the mere mention of Abroad sends everyone into convulsions.

My personal theory on *how* she got there is that Abroad-ers are experimenting in teleportation tech and Tamberlane wandered where she wasn’t supposed to. XD;

Okay, yeah. Belfry, there’s only one explanation that makes sense: You don’t even know what Abroad is, and FURTHERMORE, the very subject has become so taboo that neither does anyone else in this entire town anymore.

Do they?

The deeper I get into this story, the less I like the fact the “people” that run this town have shoved their ideals down the throats of the townspeople, to the point where even their education system gives in to fear over facts, anger over evidence, superstition over learning the truth. I know all stories supposedly need conflict to be interesting but the whole abroad deal is getting kind of stupid. Like the townsfolk are so brainwashed they can’t think for themselves anymore. It’s disgusting to be truthful, they obviously live in the dark ages.
