CALLIE: I said NO.
CALLIE: The edicts exist for a reason.

CALLIE: You are my teacher’s aide, Jentzen. You are not a teacher yet.

Callie: And after this..traitorous display I don’t think you’ll ever be.

Callie, you have done far more damage than you realize. You may as well board up the school right now, because those kids are never going to trust you again. Most telling is that Callie’s the one who flew off the handle, while Jentzen never even raised his voice. He only explained his position as best he could, and in return she openly blackballed him in front of the class. Maybe they don’t have the words to describe it yet, but they know: She is no longer a teacher. She is a puppet of an authoritarian regime. I’m sorry, Jentzen.… Read more »

Nicely done, Callie. Kudos to you on fairly putting your foot down and politely disagreeing with the very rude Jentzen in a VERY mature manner. Thanks to your rational actions, there’s NO WAY that these kids—these very, VERY curious kids, one of whom especially has been wondering who or what she is for literally as long as she can remember—are gonna try to learn about Abroad in any way possible and even risk putting themselves in possible and serious danger.

Oh, wait.

People ask me why I didn’t become a teacher with my History degree. The answer is that you always have to answer to people with their heads up their asses, whether it’s a school committee or senior faculty or whatever.

The word “fine” looks really fuzzy to me.

Callie, as a teacher and a responsible adult, should have asked Jentzen to have this conversation later, in private, instead of arguing in front of the children and scaring them.

“The Eddidcts” sounds like they contain old dictates of norms and customs. If you follow them to their letter and forgo their purpose, you’ll be stuck in the past, yet to stand against them is to oppose or even betray a corner stone in Tree-Hollow culture and identity….. That sounds oddly familiar. It’s really interesting how well Jentzen and Callie depicts two different kinds and generations of teachers. Everybody is talking about how Callie is handling it badly, and yes she is, but Jentzen is being a brick through the window here. His little personal vendetta against the old stuck… Read more »

Traitorous display seems like an overly harsh way to put it

Poor jentzen

The word ‘tratorious’ must be everyone’s favorite word in Tree Hollow when Abroad is brought up. It literally sounds like it’s being waved around in everyday conversations about the place, yet no one feels comfortable about it that they’ll use that buzzword to silence each other. Why would they even bother bringing up this place at all?

Those scarfs seem to be very significant to the kids wearing them. Cur’s is ragged, and obviously too loved to replace. Jentzen is constantly grabbing his for reassurance. Has this been explained in past strips?

Slight graphical error in the final panel over Jentzen’s “Fine.”

Yeesh, I feel sorry for the kiddos, seeing a beloved teacher go off the handle would be scary to say the very least.

Poor Marie is probably going to blame herself for getting Jentzen ‘fired’ or what not. 🙁
