Intrigue and conspiracy! :3c

Thank you as always to Chaon for Cur, Zaukodar for Callie, Ashley Nichols for Kira, and CrookedGlasses for Jentzen!

BWOOP BWOOP! THIS IS NOT A DRILL! BWOOP BWOOP!

The CHAPTER 3 TAMBERLANE KICKSTARTER is now LIVE!

If you’re looking for a beautiful printed copy of any of the three chapters so far, you’re in the right place! Tamberlane’s Chapter 3 Kickstarter is off with a BANG! The heart-squeezing comic about a disaster bat trying to care for a mysterious creature — a human child — has so many great prizes! And there are lots of chances for even MORE!

Transcripts

CALLIE: Jentzen I will not spread fear and paranoia. The likelihood that they will have to know anything about that place is slim to non-existent!
JENTZEN: That’s inaccurate, Callie! You know this!

JENTZEN: Cur’s family left him here to go Abroad!

JENTZEN: Kira’s family died trying to escape Abroad!

JENTZEN: Marie’s biological parents were banished to Abroad!

JENTZEN: Even my family…

JENTZEN: Not telling them is wrong. The Edicts are old and outdated. We have to educate our youth! We can’t just let our families and neighbors disappear into a… a social black hole!

It would be fun if the next strip would depict the other kids asking Callie what a “black hole” is, with Tamberlane casually explaining that it’s a collapsed star with a gravitational pull that’s so strong, not even light can escape its grasp.

I applaud you, Jentzen. That was a glorious takedown, and it answered my questions about Cur’s and Marie’s (and Kira’s) parents at the same time. It adds a few new wrinkles to the mystery, though. Kira’s family died trying to *escape* Abroad? So this isn’t just a one way ticket. Some of them have reason to try to go there, while others are already there, trying to get the heck out of it. Furthermore, as has already been pointed out, how does a small town so averse to modern tech even know what a black hole is? Belfry’s parents left… Read more »

I, personally, find it interesting that it’s a SOCIAL black hole. There is a whole lotta shunning going on here… which does make me intrigued as to what is going on.

And besides, people have to learn what Abroad is at some point, no?

Can I just say I love how the spots in Jentzen’s fur and hair are done? I like the slight striping where it gets longer.

I stand by my theory that Abroad is just the wider world outside the islands, and it’s nothing special or scary, beyond humans and creatures both living there in modern level society,

So, how exactly does he know Kira’s parents were killed trying to escape?

Maybe the whole stigma is just a smokescreen to mask the fact that the elders are incompetent and/or corrupt.

Curiouser and Curiouser… I REALLY want to know what this “abroad” is…
